Fashion Portfolio
To me, fashion is a comfortable aesthetic state enabling the identification of an individual despite intersectionality. It transcends borders and goes beyond race and gender.

Named under Barbie doll’s hotline, I create an upcycled garment using discarded clothes from the fast fashion industry, aiming to bring attention to the excessive use of fabrics and the resulting fabric waste generated by the doll industry. Drawing inspiration from the concept of a doll, the garment replicated the characteristics of a doll with layers of tartan fabrics.
With the toy industry being the most plastic-intensive industry in the world, I wish to shed light to also the excessive fabric waste produced and their contribution to environmental degradation including water pollution from dyeing and chemical treatments. By repurposing old clothes from fast fashion, I aim to bring attention to the issue of textile waste and the harmful impact of overproduction in the doll industry. Through the layering of check fabrics, I seek to evoke the playful and nostalgic essence associated with dolls, while simultaneously conveying a message surrounding sustainability. The act of naming the garment after Barbie's hotline serves as an irony of the excessive use of fabrics and emphasize the need for more responsible production practices in the doll industry and beyond.
